About Us

Advancing climate-resilient and low-carbon building future

GREEN SMEs advances Uganda’s climate goals by promoting energy-efficient buildings, climate-resilient infrastructure, and responsible urban planning that reduce emissions, strengthen adaptation, and support sustainable, inclusive, and low-carbon development aligned with national NDC commitments

Our Approach

Integrated, evidence-based, collaborative, and inclusive approach that is innovative, scalable, policy-driven, practical, and impact-oriented for climate action.

Priority Areas

Green buildings enhance energy efficiency, resilience, water conservation, sustainable materials use, biodiversity and climate adaptation efforts.

Energy Efficiency

Reduce consumption, lower emissions, save costs, lower greenhouse gas emissions and enhance sustainability.

Sustainable Materials

Use low-carbon, recycled, locally sourced and environmentally friendly materials and reduce embodied carbon emissions

Environmental Quality

Natural lighting, proper ventilation and non-toxic materials to enhance occupant health, comfort and productivity while reducing vulnerability to climate-related health risks.

Water Conservation

Promote rainwater harvesting, water-efficient fixtures, wastewater recycling, and sustainable drainage systems.

Resilient Design

Design to withstand extreme weather conditions through passive cooling and resilient construction techniques

Ecosystem Protection

Features such as green roofs, urban trees, permeable surfaces, and landscaping reduce urban heat island effects, improve air quality, and support biodiversity conservation.

Why GREEN SMEs?

GREEN SMEs seeks to position the built environment at the centre of Uganda’s climate action agenda by supporting implementation of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), advancing commitments under the Paris Agreement and promoting sustainable, resilient, and low-carbon development pathways for Uganda and Africa.
