GREEN SMEs is Uganda’s emerging platform for advancing green and climate-resilient buildings in support of the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and global commitments under the Paris Agreement.
We work to accelerate Uganda’s transition toward low-carbon, energy-efficient, and climate-resilient buildings by strengthening the role of the built environment in climate mitigation, adaptation and sustainable urban development.
As a national platform and growing centre of excellence for sustainable buildings, GREEN SMEs brings together government institutions, private sector actors, communities, researchers, and development partners to drive practical and scalable climate solutions within Uganda’s construction and urban development sectors.

Our work supports national and global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen climate resilience, promote green growth, and advance inclusive sustainable development.
Why GREEN SMEs Matters
The built environment is one of the most critical sectors for achieving global climate goals under the Paris Agreement. Buildings and urban infrastructure directly influence energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, climate resilience, resource efficiency, and the sustainability of cities and communities.
Uganda’s rapid urbanization and infrastructure growth present a major opportunity to integrate climate action into the construction sector. However, several gaps continue to limit the contribution of the built environment toward national climate objectives.
